Reflection.

While I was studying about culture and cultural identity I thought about my cultural identity seriously. At first, when I started learning this part, I didn’t know well how I connect to lecture and our activities. I gradually found it out why we needed to make gloge, Blog, and Avatar. All of them relate on that I learned in this part.

My an a-ha moment was stage of culture shock. Before, I just knew that simple definition of culture shock. When I learned about stage of culture shock, I thought that which stage do I fit in? How am I feeling in my stage? It gave me be clear to culture shock and It help me to overcome that.

My Bumper Sticker of this unit is expressed like this. “I am proud of my unique cultural background.” We also discussed about cultural identity on blackboard and read a text of Mirror on America. In the middle of these we had a chance to learn about cultural diversity. At that time, I was very impressed that the text explains “melting pot” and “salad ball” It helped me to understand easily about cultural diversity. Melting pot is everyone is simply an “American”. However, Salad Bowl is containing a mix of ethnicities that complement one another and that deserve to maintain their cultural identities within the larger U.S. popular culture. Although I read about this explanation in text, we also discussed about that in class. Above all, when I looked around Glogster of my class mates who have various cultural back ground, I could feel directely.

When I saw PBS site on internet, I was so surprised .I could find some difference out about race. How media reflect race to us. Although we can see the various contents of race in the site, many Americans still feel separated from society’s mainstream. Since most of them can see majority of people from television, magazine, and movies. I agree about the content. In this unit, I also learned about race. I will try to have experience about minority groups’ culture in America. I saw lots of festival for minority groups who are in Chicago but I have never been there. Maybe I also thought that is not culture of America. Now I realize that after this class and I’ll try to do.
